On Test day, you will drive for around 40 minutes, half that time ‘independently’ usually following Sat Nav directions, you might be asked to do a controlled stop, and you will be asked to carry out one of 3 reverse parking manoeuvres, and you will asked a ‘tell me’ question at the start of the test and a ‘show me’ question on the move. You are allowed to make up to 15 driving faults but no serious or dangerous ones.
Great question, and not surprisingly one we get asked a lot here at Yello Driving School. It really depends on how fast you learn and how quickly you pick things up. As a guide, the DVSA state that the ‘average’ pupil should be test ready (ie safe!) after @ 40 hours of professional instruction so long as they get some (say an extra 20 hours) extra practice in with family and friends. We have had pupils pass with much less tuition than this, and others who have needed more.
Yes we do. Yello Driving School use a Citroen DS3 Automatic which is an ideal car to teach in.
Yello Driving School is lucky enough to have both male and female instructors on their growing team.
Yes. We can usually help people with all sorts of ‘learning differences’, for example dyslexia and dyspraxia, enjoy the challenge this can often present, and have done so with success in the past.
What Our Pupils Say
I learnt to drive with Jon from Yello for about 6 months. He let me take control of my own learning, which made the whole experience so much easier. He was extremely easy going and put no pressure on the need to pass quickly, ensuring I was stress free and ready to take my test when the time came. Jon is always up for a laugh and i honestly believe that i wouldn't have passed first time like I did had the learning experience been handled by anybody else!
Jon is a fantastic instructor who has a way to make learners understand that driving is not a joke and it has to be taken seriously. He is very approachable and puts a lot of effort and energy in creating new ways of teaching. I passed both my theory and my practical tests thanks to him! I am happy to recommend him to everybody and indeed I have referred a number of friends and colleagues to Yello already!
I passed first time thanks to lessons from Yello. Can't recommend them highly enough!
I am very pleased to recommend Jon and Yello Driving School. I started with them and they supported me right through to my 'L' test which i passed in Chester in July 2019 with just 3 driving faults, which i was really very pleased with!
I had a great experience with Yello Driving School. Jon is a really good Instructor, he is always patient with a way of teaching that suited me and allowed me to practice and learn the things i needed to know to become a safe driver and pass my 'L' test!
As I'm from Poland Jon was always keen to make sure i understood everything that was being said which i really appreciated. I soon passed my driving test first time. Jon was really great and i have already given him a couple of referrals to my foreign friends
I needed a drivers licence to advance my career prospects. Jon helped me fulfill that goal. I've now got a new car and a new job!! I passed with just 1 driving fault. You are allowed 15. Only 1 in 4000 learners get a clean sheet and i was so nearly there! I was chuffed to bits to pass with such a great result. YELLO are now teaching my younger brother Corey. I am very happy to recommend this School to everybody.
Jon was calm friendly even funny at times but always professional. I had had some lessons in the past from my grandad and had picked up some pretty bad habits. Jon worked hard to get me to change my style of driving and i just passed my test first time with only 3 driving faults. I was well chuffed. I would highly recommend him.
I cant thank YELLO enough for teaching me not just how to drive but how to hopefully stay safe on the roads by anticipating all the weird things driving can throw at even the most experienced driver.
I am naturally a very nervous person, and have to take medication for that. I also have other medical complications. Jon was so understanding. I have had several bad experiences with previous Instructors. I found Jon a refreshing change. I actually ended up looking forward to lessons which was a big surprise. I learnt in a relaxed way and i was over the moon when i passed my test at my first attempt at the end of 2018.
From my past bad experience with a different Instructor, I'm really lucky i found Jon to show me how to properly drive whilst making sure i was safe at all times. I'm a really nervous driver but Jon was funny yet professional which really helped me pass my test. Would highly recommend and am doing to all my friends !
I really enjoyed learning to drive with Jon from YELLO DRIVING SCHOOL. He let me learn in a way that i was comfortable with but kept trying to challenge me which is just what i needed. Overall, a great instructor and I would highly recommend!
Jon was an excellant instructor from the first phone I held with him, he knew what level I was at from me telling him scenarios from after having previous driving with another school that I didn't feel was working for me. I told him I needed to pass fast due to me accepting a new job role, he easily packed in 40 hours of intuition into 20. He juggled his personal life schedule constantly for me at short notice because I was checking cancellations to get a quick test. He never once made me feel bad for my flaws he just helped me work on them until they were completely ironed out. I finished every lesson feeling postive knowing I was going to pass because of his extensive knowledge the the ease he gets it across to you to understand. I will recommend to everyone who wants to pass!
April 2019 - I just passed my 'L' first time at Chester Test Centre having had a course of lessons from Jon from Yello Driving School. Would have no hesitation in highly recommending him and them for anybody wanting to learn to drive.
With excellent professionalism, i'd highly recommend Yello for driving lessons in Chester. Not only is Jon a great tutor for driving but he is extremely helpful in getting the best out of you. He's majorly experienced and knows all the rules in the book. There's also a lot of personality that shows which helps to get on with him better and have a good time and a laugh at the same time as being serious when needed. Will always have a laugh now when i pass a Tesco van!!!
I'm so happy to have passed my first go at a driving test after lessons with Yello. I only picked up 2 minor driving faults which was even better. I'm the only person in my group of mates to have done so, so have major bragging rights. Thanks Jon. Couldn't have done it without all your help!
